Maynilad delivers 24-hour water service to majority of West Zone

Maynilad, the largest water concessionaire in terms of customer base in the Philippines, now delivers 24-hour water service to nearly 60% of the West Zone of the Greater Metro Manila Area.

The improved service level was achieved through the massive service improvement projects undertaken by the new owners, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and DMCI Holdings, Inc.

“Dati sa madaling araw lang kami may tubig. Ngayon, 24 hours may tubig na kami. Saka in fairness ang lakas na ng tubig namin,” said Teresita Tisado of Barrio Obrero, Pandacan, Manila.

With more customers in the West Zone enjoying round-the-clock water supply, only 7% of the estimated 760,000 Maynilad households still have less than 12 hours service. These underserved areas are mostly in North Caloocan, Valenzuela and Fairview (the elevated areas north of the Concession) and Parañaque, Las Piñas and Cavite, which are the farthest areas from the main water supply source in Angat Dam in Bulacan.

Despite the topographical disadvantage, Maynilad customers in these areas are beginning to feel improvements in their water service, especially in terms of availability. “Ang laking ginhawa na pag kailangan mo ng tubig, pagbukas mo ng gripo, merong lumalabas. Naging ‘normal’ ang takbo ng buhay ng mga residente rito,” Florencio Leynes of BF Homes-Parañaque said.

“Ideally, all our customers should be getting water 24 hours a day at a minimum pressure of 7 psi. That’s what we are trying to hit phase-by-phase as we implement our extensive five-year capital expenditure plan,” Maynilad president Rogelio Singson said.
